Broward County Charter Amendment - Uncover Amendment Two

Uncover Broward County Amendment Two

uncover BC amendment 2

Broward County has placed an item on the November 3, 2020 ballot that would give the County the power to supersede municipal zoning and regulatory authority for projects on County property that are funded in whole or in part by transportation surtax funds, even when the project(s) will be within Town boundaries. This essentially means that Town ordinances will be overruled by County ordinances.

Cities have long fought to protect their Home Rule rights. The residents of Hillsboro Beach and every municipality in Broward have a right to have their voices heard.

Amendment Two  will:

  •  Erode Home Rule Authority
  • Take away the ability of cities, and its residents, to make decisions on issues within our own  community
  • Have County Ordinances prevail over conflicting Town of Hillsboro Beach on such matters as zoning, permitting, architecture and landscaping standards.

Shall local authority prevail on November 3, 2020? It is our Community. Should Hillsboro residents Beach have the final say?

  • What is the exact wording of the ballot question? What  will I see on my ballot?

COUNTY REGULATION OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF SURTAX-FUNDED TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENTS ON COUNTY PROPERTY

"To facilitate implementation of surtax-funded improvements to the countywide transportation system, shall the Broward County Charter be amended to provided that the County Ordinances regulating the development, including zoning, permitting construction, operation, or administration, of transportation improvement projects that are (1) on County-leased property and (2) funded in whole or in part with proceeds from the transportation surtax approved by the County's in 2018, prevail over conflicting municipal ordinances?"

What are my options? What does a "Yes"  or "No" vote mean for this question on the ballot?

If your vote YES, this will put Broward official in charge of local zoning.

If you vote NO, this will keep Town of Hillsboro Beach officials in charge of local zoning.
