Earth Day is April 22. Every year on this day, we examine the many issues impacting
Earth and the environment. But, it shouldn’t be just once a year that we work together to
protect the environment. One of the most precious yet depleting resources is water. We
use it daily, but too often, we do not think about how water is a limited resource.

There are many ways you can save water even while using it. There are even ways to
save without having to think about it! From the bathroom to the kitchen, to your own
backyard.

You can start by replacing old, inefficient toilets that use more than 1.6 gallons of water
per flush (gpf) with High Efficiency Toilets using 1.28 gpf or less. These new high-tech
toilets flush even better than the old models, and they save water and money in the
process!

The Broward Water Partnership, which includes the Town of Hillsboro Beach and 17
other local governments and water utilities is providing rebates of up to $100 each on
WaterSense® High Efficiency Toilets.

It’s also very important to follow your community’s irrigation restrictions. If you live in
Broward County, you are limited to irrigating your lawn twice per week. Doing so
ensures that we’re being efficient while still enjoying a healthy, green lawn!
So, on Earth Day, and every day, show your appreciation of our precious resources by
saving them.
